We had a fun time loading ivory and boxwood rules on our website. I walked into the shop and realized we’ve only put 1/3 of our stock on the site so far. If you are “into” rules come by and see all the great things we have. I am sure we could open a museum.

The Stanley #80 Saddler’s rule (36 inch rule) was primarily designed for leather workers. It is 36″ long and graduated in 8ths and 16ths-inches. It is made of maple with brass tips. The width is 1 1/2″. The rule is marked with the Stanley logo and the model number. The saddlers rule was originally a Stearns product that was retained when Stanley purchased the Stearns product line.

Yes – members can list their items on the site.

We are working thru the logistics. What we hope will happen on the payment side may be different than what actually happens.

What we hope will happen – that the consignor supplies – in the description their paypal information. When a consumer purchases their item, the purchaser can change the exiting paypal to their consignor information – and we don’t get involved in any money exchanging hands.

What may happen – that the paypal / payment goes thru the regular backend system – and we then have to pay (make whole) the consignor.

Would you like to be the first – for free (no listing fees) – for helping us test the process?

Many have asked what is an Ivory sector

    Sector (instrument)
    From Wikipedia,

The other side of the same sectorThe sector, also known as a proportional compass or military compass, was a major calculating instrument in use from the end of the sixteenth century until the nineteenth century. It is an instrument consisting of two rulers of equal length which are joined by a hinge. A number of scales are inscribed upon the instrument which facilitate various mathematical calculations. It was used for solving problems in proportion, trigonometry, multiplication and division, and for various functions, such as squares and cube roots. Its several scales permitted easy and direct solutions of problems in gunnery, surveying and navigation. The sector derives its name from the fourth proposition of the sixth book of Euclid, where it is demonstrated that similar triangles have their like sides proportional. It has four parts, two legs with a pivot (the articulation), a quadrant and a clamp (the curved part at the end of the leg) that enables the compass to function as a gunner’s quadrant

    Hi Lester,

The rule is not marked Standard. Many of their ivorys are not. The way to tell, is the hinge pin and the caliper. The rule is very rare ,and under priced for the condition. I just have not had time to change the price of it. However, if you would like it, I will sell it for the price listed on the website.

Thank you for your interest in the Standard No 40. Caliper rule.

I think it might be helpful in your store listings to indicate the number of folds and total length of the piece. Obviously, the potential buyer could look up the model number in the Stanley Little Book, or the concordance – but just a suggestion.

By the way, thanks for giving me Scott Link’s phone number a while ago. I bought his book directly from him and it’s terrific!

    Thanks again,

    Glenn in New Jersey
